The decision to establish the school, Guru Nanak Modern School was taken at the 52nd session of the ALL INDIA SIKH EDUCATIONAL CONFERENCE held at Kanpur in October 1974, under the patronage of Chief Khalsa Diwan, Amritsar, the session being inaugurated by Late Fakhruddin Ali Ahmed President of India and was presided by Sardar Gurdayal Singh Dhillon, the Speaker of parliament. Guru Nanak Modern School was thus established in Cantonment Area of Kanpur with the aim of imparting quality education to all without distinction of caste, creed, religion or social status.

The school shifted to its present site in April 1985. It is prominently located on a spacious land on Bithoor Road, Kalyanpur under the divine, benevolent ambience of the Gurudwara amidst environmentally healthy and peaceful surroundings away from the hustle bustle of city life- The atmosphere being most congenial for the physical and mental growth of young minds. The school building is equipped with all modern amenities. The class rooms are spacious, well ventilated, attractive and comfortable. The laboratories (Science and Computers) and the Library are spacious, well equipped and appropriately furnished. The average strength of a class ranges from 30-35 and the student teacher ratio is maintained to 20:1.

Above all, the school draws its inspiration from the great ethical and moral principles as enshrined in the teaching of GURUNANAK DEV JI.

Recently, the school has acquired a vast area of land near by on Bithoor Road for further expansion, efforts for which are under way.

I strongly believe the role of a school is not only to impart academic knowledge but to ensure that the child gets individual attention and be personalized. Emphasis on ‘student-teacher interaction’ to encourage the child’s development according to their aptitude should be prime interest of the school. A school must try to provide its students with an atmosphere for multifaceted development, where children are encouraged to channelize their potential in the pursuit of excellence. This can be possible in a holistic, ‘student-centric environment.
I hope our school environment is conducive for learning and fun.

I congratulate the school on having made a significant impact and inspired too many of our community leaders to support the cause of education. The motto, “all’s well when done well” speaks about the volumes, about the spirit of the school, and inspires the budding students. In spite of its glorious achievement as one of the best educational institutions, it never commercializes education but continues to remain an institution of service, catering to the educational needs of children. The specialty of this institute is that it has made quality education accessible to all category of people. I assure that the school will achieve a paragon of success in the coming year.
